in writing, work is divided into units of thought, and each of these units is described as a paragraph. In each paragraph, there tends to be one sentence which summarises the main idea of that paragraph (topic sentence). This topic sentence can occur at different places in the paragraph and paragraphs are classified according to the position of this sentence.
